After watching Can You Ever Forgive Me, I was faced with the question why Lee Israel was not able to change her voice in her own writing. If she was so good at imitating other peoples’ voices then why would she not do this on her own projects? What Lee Israel did took much skill, and while these skills were useful in forging letters, she could have applied these skills to other opportunities. She could have written books and tailored them to specific audiences. Obviously I am not as skilled of a writer as Lee Israel, but for some assignments in school I would change my voice to make the writing easier. If I knew my teacher felt a certain way about a topic, I would tailor towards that opinion to get a better grade. If I could do it, so could Lee Israel. I believe that Lee Israel missed out on a large opportunity that would have been legal and potentially prosperous.
