Letter Writing to Me

Letters hold a special place in my heart because I have been receiving them since I was ten. Each summer I spend my time away from my family at my sleep-away camp, Ramah in the Poconos. I spend one to two months here, with the only contact from my family coming every couple days in the form of a letter. They are handed to us at the bunk each day after lunch by our counselors with a big stack of letters in hand. I can always spot mine in the pile due to the amusing stickers my mom and siblings engulf the envelopes with. I would also get time throughout the week to write letters back to my family. In this course I am excited to learn of the other ways letters have made an impact on others, just as they have made a large one on mine. I’m also intrigued about the science of letter writing and why letters mean more than a text message. I do not have many concerns about the class and I am ready to see what is to come.

My Writing Process

When writing essays I like how I am able to map out my ideas and make an outline. This way when it is time for me to write the essay I just need to plug in my outline and fill in areas around it. I would like to improve the variety of sentence structure and vocabulary. As a writer I hope I learn different ways of writing papers other than the basic five paragraph essay.
